Previous Public Meetings

The 19 day public comment period for the Draft US45 Corridor Study Report has ended.  A public open house was held on March 1, 2006 at the Savoy Recreation Center for citizens to review the document and speak with staff and participating agencies’ representatives about the corridor study.

Regional Planning Commission staff held public workshops on June 28th and 29th, 2005 in Champaign and Tolono, respectively. The purpose of the workshops was to discuss how residents would like the corridor study area to develop over the next 20 years. Approximately 30 residents attended the meetings, in addition to about 15 staff and steering committee members.

Residents were presented with five alternatives for future development, each ranging in the level of change in terms of population growth, employment growth, land uses, densities, and transportation improvements. They were given the opportunity to discuss and comment on concepts within each alternative, and then "vote" for their preferred development options.

We saw many different perspectives, heard personal stories, and noted many issues and forces for the study area. These ideas will help us focus in on a preferred development alternative for the study area. Many thanks to the residents who participated in this forum!
