Head Start
Disabilities Services
Champaign County Head Start/Early Head Start serves any child with a delay or disability by coordinating with early intervention and early childhood programs to provide appropriate developmental services. Staff work closely with community agencies to provide services that meet a child’s special needs. Teaching staff work as a team with each family to ensure that their child is included in the full range of activities of the program.
Disability services include these features:
- 10% of enrollment must be children diagnosed with a disability.
- Staff support and monitor Early Intervention (Infants and Toddlers) or Special Education (Preschoolers) goals.
- Therapy services are coordinated through provider contracts and partnerships with the early intervention agency or the school districts in the county, depending on the child’s age.
- Advocacy to parents and children.
