Regular dental exams can detect cavities and other oral health risks. Poor oral health care can lead to:
- chronic pain/serious infection;
- poor nutrition;
- poor self-esteem;
- absence from school;
- learning problems; and
- behavioral/emotional problems
Healthy baby teeth lead to healthy permanent teeth!
A Healthy Mouth can:
- prevent infection and diseases
- prevent tooth decay and loss
- prevent high dental and medical costs
- decrease school absences
Every child, age birth to five, is recommended to have a yearly oral screening/dental exam and cleanings every six months as appropriate. CCHS will assist with and/or provide dental exams, cleanings and/or fluoride treatments for children.
In a partnership with SmileHealthy, CCHS currently provides on-site dental services to enrolled children, as well as pregnant mothers, and their immediate family members who live in the same household.
The Rantoul Head Start Dental Clinic provides ongoing dental exams, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and minimal dental treatment such as extractions and fillings. For clients who need sedation, a referral will be made to a clinic in the Champaign County area.
Families needing dental care should call Jill Myers, Dental Hygienist, at Central Illinois Dental Education and Services at (217) 359-7404 or contact your Family Advocate.
