New Initiative Helping Mobile Home Residents in Champaign County Increase Energy Efficiency

Increased energy savings and improved comfort and safety are the two biggest benefits of a new initiative designed to assist mobile home residents in Champaign County. Through the Mobile Home Initiative (MHI), qualifying Ameren Illinois customers can receive a free Home Energy Assessment to help them learn where their homes are losing energy and discover ways to save on energy-efficient upgrades.

The RPC is partnering with Ameren Illinois and Future Energy Enterprises on the MHI. The goal of the program is to enhance a customer’s knowledge about energy efficiency in their own home to increase their comfort and reduce their energy usage.

“Ameren Illinois is pleased to support the RPC on this innovative new initiative to help mobile home residents reduce their energy usage and save money on their monthly bills,” says Nick Lovier, the Ameren Illinois Manager of Energy Efficiency. “It’s rare that an energy efficiency program includes offerings specifically for mobile home customers, but the MHI builds on our efforts to ensure the benefits of energy efficiency are accessible to all customers.”

After the free assessment from a qualified Energy Advisor, customers in the program will receive a free Energy Savings Kit. The kit includes easy-to-install products like LED lightbulbs, advanced power strips, low-flow showerheads, and faucet aerators.

In addition, mobile home residents may also receive energy-saving products like new HVAC equipment, added insulation, a smart thermostat, and/or air and duct sealing. Product and equipment eligibility will be determined during your Home Energy Assessment and installed by a Program-approved, licensed contractor.

Through the partnership with Ameren Illinois, the MHI is provided at no cost. Applications are now being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The application and income guidelines can be found online by clicking here, or at the RPC’s main office in Urbana (1776 E. Washington Street). Champaign County residents qualify if they live in a mobile home, are Ameren Illinois heating customers, and have a maximum gross annual income at or below the amount listed on the Income Qualification Chart.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to review all requirements before submitting. Missing signatures or documents can lead to delays in processing applications. Upgrades can be performed on any mobile home occupied by an eligible applicant that is an Ameren Illinois customer and resides in Champaign County. The MHI aims to fully serve customers within one month of receiving completed applications.
