Current Projects

CUUATS is currently involved in the following projects:

University Avenue Corridor Study
Staley/Rising Corridor Study
Long Range Transportation Plan 2025 (LRTP)
Greenways and Trails Plan
Safe Walking Route Maps
Campus Area Transportation Study (CATS)

The City of Urbana was awarded a $180,000 grant through the Illinois Tomorrow program in 2006. The goal of the study is to examine how safety and mobility can be improved in the corridor for all transportation modes through access management, intelligent transportation technologies, and other context sensitive solutions.

The City of Champaign received a $180,000 planning grant from the Illinois Tomorrow program to create a plan that analyzes how the Staley/Rising area in west Champaign should develop in terms of transportation and land use. CUUATS was contracted to complete the study, which began in October 2006.

CUUATS staff completed the Long Range Transportation Plan 2025 in December 2004. Staff updated this plan to be in compliance with new federal legislation in July 2007.

The Champaign County Greenways and Trails Plan was approved by the Regional Planning Commission Board in February 2004. This plan identifies projects and concepts that need to be completed in order to work toward a fully connected greenways and trails system for the County. Implementation of the plan is ongoing.

CUUATS creates and updates Safe Walking Route Maps for public elementary and middle schools in Champaign-Urbana.

The Illinois Department of Transportation, University of Illinois, Cities of Champaign and Urbana, the Village of Savoy, and the Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District are coordinating efforts to improve transportation in the Campustown area. Currently, Phase III implementation and construction is underway.
