Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC)

This program is designed to provide police officers with the skills, knowledge, and behavior traits to safely and effectively operate emergency vehicles under a variety of traffic and weather conditions.   The training will focus on behind the wheel instruction --- always under the direct supervision of a driving instructor.

This is not a pursuit driving course and will not involve high speeds.  At least 50% of the driving practicals will be conducted under nighttime conditions.  Enrollment is limited to 12 participants, with an instructor to student ratio of 1:3.

        Practical Driving Maneuver Exercises
      
            Steering Techniques     Vehicle Positioning
            Braking Techniques      Acceleration Skills
            Accident Avoidance      Backing Skills

 

Instruction:       Provided by Certified Driving Instructors from local departments.

Equipment:       Departments should send a minimum of one vehicle for every three officers enrolled.
                             Each officer must bring a flashlight and reflective safety vest.
