This course will combine classroom instruction with 20 hours of on-bike training to improve riding and handling skills.  Participants will learn how to negotiate obstacles and hazards, make traffic stops, initiate citizen and suspect contacts, and safely operate bicycles in pursuit situations.

Since most of the program involves active physical training, officers should be in good physical condition and have some bike riding experience.  This course is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA).  Both instructors are certified by IPMBA.

        Riding Techniques and Bike Handling
        Hazard Recognition and Obstacle Clearing
        Patrolling, Vehicle Stops and Suspect Stops
        Traffic Strategies and Approach to Calls
        Pursuits and Takedowns
        Night Patrol
        Group Riding
        Bicycles and Firearms
        Basic Equipment Maintenance
        Legal Issues and Traffic Laws
