Program Purpose

The transportation system is designed to provide rural Champaign County residents with a mode of transportation to a variety of locations in Champaign and Urbana including adult day care centers, senior and local events, doctor and dental offices, grocery stores, Peace Meal sites, and pharmacies.

About the Program

Rural Rider is a program of the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission--Senior Services. This program provides curb to curb wheelchair accessible service to rural seniors (those 60 years of age and older) who live outside the Champaign-Urbana MTD limits. Companions of riders requiring assistance will not be charged.

Priority for rides is given to medical and nutrition/food needs. We require 2 business days in advance to schedule rides. Medical appointments should be scheduled between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The health care providers have been most helpful if you tell them you take the Rural Rider van. Rural Rider does not operate on county holidays.

To schedule rides or ask Rural Rider questions, call (217) 328-3313 Ext. 183.

The Rural Rider program is provided at no cost to seniors thanks to subsidies form area townships. East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging and individual donations. The average cost of a one-way ride $24. Any donation will be used to support the Rural Rider program.
