American Recovery & Reinvestment Act Page

ARRA

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is an unprecedented effort to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century. The Recovery and Reinvestment Act is an extraordinary response to a crisis unlike any since the Great Depression. With much at stake, the Act provides for unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability so that you will be able to know how, when, and where your tax dollars are being spent. Spearheaded by a new Recovery Board, this Act contains built-in measures to root out waste, inefficiency, and unnecessary spending (www.recovery.gov).

The Champaign-Urbana-Savoy urbanized area received $4.1 million dollars in federal stimulus funding for infrastructure. The CUUATS Technical and Policy Committees met on March 4, 2009, where members discussed and approved the ARRA Funding Distribution Table for the urbanized area (linked below). This table describes the selected projects and funding disbursements. Projects were selected for funding using the 2009 Project Profiles document for Champaign County. Projects in this document were ranked and given priority based on a number of criterion. The top ranked projects eligible for funding from each agency were discussed and voted upon at the March 4th CUUATS Technical and Policy Committee meetings.

In order to follow the precedent of transparency and accountability set up by the Obama Administration, CUUATS created this webpage so taxpayers and urbanized-area residents can track where ARRA funds are being spent. This website lists money received and money spent on transportation infrastructure projects and mass transit projects. The website will be continuously updated as ARRA funds are obligated in the CUUATS Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) document. Amendments to the TIP will be posted on this website as well as a links to the updated TIP documents.
