University Avenue Corridor Study

The University Avenue Corridor Study is now underway!

The University Avenue Corridor Study will be undertaken using grant funding from the IDOT Illinois Tomorrow Corridor Planning Grant Program. The $180,000 grant was awarded to the City of Urbana in 2006, and was matched with $18,000 from the City of Urbana, City of Champaign, University of Illinois, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, and the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission.

The goal of the study is to examine how safety and mobility can be improved in the corridor for all transportation modes through access management, intelligent transportation technologies, and other context sensitive solutions. In addition, the study will determine how economic revitalization can occur through innovative streetscaping, infill and redevelopment opportunities, and façade improvements that focus on the pedestrian scale drawing motorists off the roadway and into the community.
